Malaysia International Quran Recitation and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) started on October 5 at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center.
A total of 92 Quran reciters and memorizers from 71 countries are taking part in the contest.
Iran’s representative seems to be the last contender arriving in Malaysia after several delays in flights due to the tense situation in the Middle East.
His previous flights on Wednesday and Friday had been canceled and there were concerns he could not make it to the venue of the competition on time.
But he finally left Tehran on Monday and reached Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning, October 8.
After arriving the airport, he learned about his turn to perform his recitation, which will come on Thursday evening, October 10.
Iranian qaris have won the highest number of top ranks in the prestigious Quranic contest.

Among those from Iran coming first in the competition over the years are late Mohammad Taqi Morovvat, Abbas Salimi, Ali and Msoud Sayyah Gorji, Abbas Emamjome, Mansour Qasrizadeh, Ahmad Abolqassemi and Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, who was later martyred in the Mina tragedy in 2015.
Last year, Iran’s Ali Reza Bijani finished runner-up in the 63rd edition of the international event.
